Usia ibu juga menjadi faktor yang dapat mempengaruhi terjadinya sindrom Down pada anak. Risiko terjadinya sindrom Down meningkat seiring dengan bertambahnya usia ibu saat hamil.
Pada usia 35 tahun, risiko terjadinya sindrom Down sekitar 1 dari 350 kehamilan. Pada usia 40 tahun, risiko meningkat menjadi 1 dari 100 kehamilan. Pada usia 45 tahun, risiko meningkat lagi menjadi 1 dari 30 kehamilan.
Faktor Lingkungan Lainnya
Selain faktor genetik dan usia ibu, ada juga faktor lingkungan lainnya yang dapat mempengaruhi terjadinya sindrom Down pada anak. Beberapa faktor lingkungan yang diketahui dapat mempengaruhi terjadinya sindrom Down antara lain:
- Paparan radiasi
- Paparan bahan kimia tertentu
- Infeksi selama kehamilan
- Kekurangan gizi selama kehamilan
