DEPOSTJABAR.COM,- Kabupaten Garut, Jawa Barat rawan terjadi gempa bumi.

Batuan rombakan gunung api yang mengalami pelapukan menjadi penyebabnya.

Gempa bumi mengguncang wilayah Garut pada Rabu, 1 Februari 2023 malam.

Gempa berkekuatan magnitudo 4,3 tersebut dirasakan di sejumlah wilayah di Jawa Barat.

Menurut data BMKG, gempa bumi berlokasi di darat pada koordinat 107,73 BT dan 7,27 LS, berjarak sekitar 19,4 km barat daya Kota Garut, Provinsi Jawa Barat dengan kedalam 3 km.

Gempa yang terjadi diakibatkan oleh aktivitas sesar aktif yakni Sesar Garsela dengan mekanisme sesar mendatar.

Dikutip Depostjabar dari laman resmi Badan Geologi Kementerian Energi dan Sumber Daya Mineral, morfologi daerah di sekitar pusat gempa merupakan perbukitan bergelombang dan terjal.

Wilayah setempat juga merupakan lembah.

Secara umum, wilayah tersebut tersusun oleh tanah sedang dan tanah keras/batuan lunak.

Batuan di wilayah itu merupakan endapan Kuarter berupa batuan rombakan gunung api muda.

Batuan rombakan tersebut terdiri dari breksi gunung api, lava, dan tuff.

Sebagian besar batuan rombakan telah mengalami pelapukan.

Sementara endapan kuarter yang bersifat lunak, lepas, belum kompak dan memperkuat efek guncangan sehingga membuat wilayah tersebut rawan terjadi gempa.

Morfologi perbukitan bergelombang dan terjal yang terdiri dari batuan rombakan gunung api yang telah mengalami pelapukan berpotensi terjaid gerakan tanah.

Gerakan tersebut dapat dipicu oleh guncangan gempa bumi kuat serta curah hujan tinggi.
